The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) has signed an agreement with the Public Entity Risk Institute (PERI) (www.riskinstitute.org) to award approximately 30 scholarships to land use planners, social service providers, emergency managers, risk managers, business resumption specialists, building and public works officials,and those in related occupations to help them attend the 100th Anniversary Earthquake Conference Commemorating the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for a scholarship applicants should:
- Have key responsibility within their organization or agency for an area of risk or emergency management, loss reduction planning, hazards insurance, business resumption planning, social services, municipal development, land use planning, or building code enforcement.
- Come from municipal jurisdictions or non-profit institutions or organizations where they have responsibility for one or more of the above areas.
Scholarship Benefits:
Each scholarship recipient will receive $1,000 in direct financial assistance, which can be applied to any conference cost, including travel, lodging, and registration fee. Recipients within the Bay Area, who do not require air transportation, will receive awards of $600.
Application Procedure:
Interested applicants must complete the PERI Scholarship application on the 100th Anniversary Conference website. Completed applications must be received by mail at EERI, 499 14 th Street, Suite 320, Oakland, CA 94612 or by fax at: 510 451 5411 no later than Wednesday, March 1, 2006.

Students Invited to Apply for Travel Scholarships to the
100th Anniversary Earthquake Conference
Several scholarships are available to encourage students to attend the combined meetings, thanks to support from Federal Emergency Management Agency and the EERI Endowment Fund under the auspices of the EERI Special Projects and Initiatives Committee.
Financial support will be contingent upon the applicant’s participation in the EERI Opening Reception and Poster Session, to be held at the Westin St. Francis Hotel, on Monday evening, April 17th. Students are encouraged to describe their current research projects. Each scholarship may be used to offset student registration, lodging at the conference hotel for four nights, and round-trip excursion airfare. Students are expected to assist during the conference.
Application Procedure:
To apply, send a letter of request and poster abstract to the Special Projects and Initiatives Committee in care of Valarie Austin at valarie@eeri.org.
Applicants should describe their current interest in earthquake hazard reduction. Accepted abstracts will be compiled and provided to reception participants and must be submitted in final form for reproduction. Abstracts should be prepared with one-inch margins on all sides and single-spaced in a Times Roman or equivalent font (11 points or larger). Text should be flush left. The title of the poster presentation should be centered at the top of the page and capitalized. Presenters should be identified by name, title, and organizational affiliation. Abstracts should not exceed two pages in length and must be received no later than Wednesday, March 1 at EERI.
Presenters will be notified by March 17th of acceptance.

The San Franicsco Department of Building Inspection (www.sfgov.org) is sponsoring 60 one-day registrations for teachers to attend the 100th Anniversary Earthquake Conference..
Eligibility:
To be eligible for a scholarship applicants should:
- Be a teacher in the City and County of San Francisco (Scholarships will be awarded to teachers outside this area if enough candidates are not identifed meeting the requirements)
Scholarship Benefits:
Each scholarship recipient will receive $25 to be applied to a one-day registration fee.
Application Procedure:
Simply register for the event at the conference registration site.
